The pill dispenser reminds users to take medication with an audible and visual alarm.
If the user doesn’t take medication after the specified time, an alarm is sent to an Alarm Response Centre (ARC) or a local receiver.
At the programmed alarm time, the tray rotates ½ section clockwise and unlocks the shutter, making the dose available. At this time, an alarm will sound, the light flashes, and the LCD will display a message saying ‘Take Med’.
The user is required to pick the device up and tip it 180 degrees, allowing the prescribed dose of medication to either fall into their hand or a suitable container, ready to administer. By tipping the device 180 degrees, the alarm and flashing light is cancelled. The shutter on the device will remain open for 2 minutes, at which time the tray will rotate a further ½ section locking the shutter again and partially blocking access to the next dose until the programmed time. This is designed to deter the user from trying to access other medication held in the tray.
There is an option to programme the dispenser into the Neat Novo care phone range and Infopager 2G systems. This provides a ‘Dose not taken’ notification that will be communicated with family /carers, allowing them to provide support as and when required.
If the user has manual dexterity issues or has a habit of leaving the tray upside down, a tipper unit
can be ordered to further aid safe and independent medication management. The tipper requires
a light touch to dispense the medication into a pot and automatically reverts to an upright position
after dispensing.
